Pays de Loire replaces PACA as third largest employment area
The region ‘Ile de France’ further consolidates its position as main employment area in France. With 24.8% of all French jobs originating from this geographical zone, its market share went up 2% compared to 2013. The Rhône-Alpes region conserves its second position despite recording one of the largest losses this quarter (-0.5%). By losing 0.1% of market share, the region PACA forfeits its third place to the benefit of Pays de Loire. With 6.7% of all jobs, Pays de Loire is now the third largest employment area in France.
Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Poitou-Charentes and Bretagne are all on an upward trend, with shares up between 0.2% and 0.3%. The Midi-Pyrenées region is registering a large decline. Down by 0.5%, this region now accounts for 4.1% of all French jobs. Lorraine, Normandy and Limousin also lost market share, between -0.2% and -0.4%.
Smaller portion of jobs in IT and Public sector
In Q2 2014, Trade/Retail and Manufacturing remain the top sectors of employment with respectively 17.8% and 13.2% of all French jobs. With a market share of 8,4%, the Business services sector ranks third again, despite a slight decline of 0.7%. Two of the most dramatic declines can be seen in the IT sector and the Public service/ Non-profit sector. Down respectively 1.7% and 2.2%, they have both lost a significant portion of market share. The Hospitality sector as well as the Personal Services and the Transport sector recorded the highest growth rates up 0.7 to 1% compared to the previous year.
