The UK job market online in Q2 2017

The UK job market saw 11.3 million postings online in the second quarter of 2017. After deduplication, this produced an overall figure of 2.5 million unique vacancies. The sector with the biggest demand was healthcare which accounted for 12.1% of total market share. It also experienced an increase of 2.1% year-on-year, underpinning the general post-Brexit drop-off in applicants to NHS roles from continental Europe.

This labour market analysis was carried out using Jobfeed, the big data tool from Textkernel. Every day Jobfeed trawls the web collecting information on millions of jobs across the United Kingdom and around the globe.

Among the main highlights from Q2 2017:

  • Marked upswing in demand for jobs in the healthcare sector
  • The support worker category moves up one place in our year-on-year ranking
  • Marginal fall in the market share for postings in England is counterbalanced by increases in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland
